MVTA Grants

Becoming a member of the MVTA gives you access to our grant programs. Below is a list of grants we offer:

  •  Continuing Education Grant
  •  Student Book Grant
  •  Volunteer Grants (both CVT and Students)

You must meet the requirements in order to apply for our grants. They are offered annually, and winners are selected by the board members of the MVTA by majority vote.

 

MVTA Continuing Education Grant

Keeping up to date on the current trends can be frustrating and costly. The MVTA has developed a grant for its members to help them attend a conference that they may have avoided due to cost.

  • Grant amount: $600.00
  • Must be a CVT member of the MVTA in order to apply. 
  • The MVTA member who is chosen will be reimbursed up to $600 for continuing education (you will be asked to show your receipts). 
  • The grant winner cannot reapply the following year. 
  • The MVTA member applying must write an essay 200 -300 words in length on why they think continuing education is important. 

The deadline to apply is by November 15th, of the current year. The winner will be contacted after the December board meeting.


 MVTA Continuing Education Grant

Student Book Grant

The MVTA knows just how much books cost when going to school. It can really add stress to an already stressful situation. We are here to help with some of the cost and so we have developed a student grant.

  • Grant Amount: $300.00
  • Must be a student MVTA member in order to apply.
  • The student who is chosen will be reimbursed for up to $300 for book expenditures (you will be asked to show your receipts). 
  • The grant winner cannot reapply the following year.
  • The student is required to submit a 200-300-word essay on why they chose the veterinary technician program. 

The deadline to apply is by November 15th, of the current year. The winner will be contacted after the December board meeting.


Student Book Grant

Volunteer Grants

Two (2) $1500 grants will be awarded to those that have applied and met the grant requirements. The grant recipient can use the funds towards such programs as Project Samana, the Mazunte Turtle Project, or any other animal programs that MVTA Executive Council approves. The recipient of this grant will be required to write an article for the MVTA Newsletter regarding the program that they attended.
The requirements to apply are as follows:

  • Must have a minimum of 2 years of experience as a veterinary technician.
  • Must be a current certified veterinary technician with the MVTA.
  • Must submit one letter of recommendation from a veterinarian which also cites length and type of experience.
  • Must submit a copy of their resume.
  • Must submit a letter of acceptance into the program which will need to be provided by the program director.
  • Must submit an essay 200-300 words typed on why you should be chosen to participate in the program you have chosen.

The money will be distributed in the form of a reimbursement check. The chosen grant recipient will submit receipts from the given program expenditures and a reimbursement check in the maximum amount of $1500 will be mailed to the recipient's home.
The deadline to apply is March 15th of the current year. The winning recipient will be notified after the April board meeting.

The grant must be used within 24 months from the date the winner is contacted.

 Volunteer Grants

Student Volunteer Grant

If you are a student who wants to make a difference in the lives of animals in an unusual setting, then this grant is for you!
One (1) $1500 grant will be awarded to those that have applied and met the grant requirements. The grant recipient can use the funds towards such programs as Project Samana, the Mazunte Turtle Project, or any other programs that MVTA Executive Council approves.   • Must be at least a sophomore in an AVMA accredited veterinary technology program.
  • Must be a current student member of the MVTA for at least one year.
  • Must submit one letter of recommendation from a veterinarian or professor which also cites length and type of experience.

  • Must submit a letter of acceptance into the program which will need to be provided by the program director.
  • Must submit an essay 200-300 words typed on why you should be chosen to participate in the program you have chosen.
